LOVE ACTS
In post production
A two-act film about the struggle between love and hate told in the form of a passionate night between two seeming strangers who find comfort in each other after a night on the town, and a trial where one is accused of murdering the other.
On a stormy night Agnas (37) ends up at Laura’s (43) house. Seemingly two strangers who have hooked up during a night on the town. But it’s soon apparent that stronger emotions are smouldering beneath the surface. Agnas confesses her love to Laura, but is left with a harrowing silence as the only response. The gut-wrenching ambivalence leaves her unable to leave the house.
A decadent and sensual courtship display follows, as the two lovers indulge themselves with booze, food and each other in a turmoil of tenderness and hostility, delight and woe. The affair escalates into a humiliating rejection and Agnas vanishes into the night.
A door opens up to a modest white courtroom, full of spectators. Agnas is escorted in by two police officers and seated by the defendant stand. She is charged with the murder of Laura on the night in question. Throughout the seven months of the investigation and preparation of the trial, she has remained silent. Through the opening speech, the prosecutor manages to motivate Agnas to speak again. Agnas’ account of the night in question does not correspond to what we as an audience have experienced. Is she lying or has time taken its toll on her memory?
All details are carefully examined and challenged through the use of reason and contradicting evidence. As the prosecutor’s interrogation advances, Agnas’ account gradually crumbles and one question is repeatedly left unanswered: Did you love Laura?
